5 MUST DO’S AT THE MADONNA INN

For my 30th birthday, my sweet sweet sister organized a stay for us in one of California’s most unique hotels: The Madonna Inn. In this post I’ve collected 5 of my best tips to have a magical stay.

THE MADONNA INN

The Madonna Inn is located in San Luis Obispo, which is about halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. It is most famous for its over 100 uniquely and eclectically decorated rooms- no one the same. They have everything from glittery and pink, to floor to ceiling rock, and everything in between. I got major Mad Men Vibes most of the time on the property, which is pretty fun if you want to dress the part (and which we did see folks doing).

We stayed in the “Merry” Room, which was so gloriously glittery and pink and filled with beautiful chandeliers and sconces. I couldn’t take a picture that did the room justice. See below for a few of my tries.

There was so much attention to detail, we loved every minute spent in our room.
Also below, find my dream bathroom. I am committed to one day having a pink floral pedestal sink.

So aside from picking a VERY fun themed room, fit for your own personality and style— with out further ado, here are my Five Must Do’s at The Madonna Inn:

#1: Take home a signature Madonna inn goblet

(or at least drink out of one)!

We left LA around 1:30 on Friday (hoping to miss most of the LA weekend rush) and ended up in SLO around 430- great time! We checked in, marveled our room and then took a trip around the property.

First, we stopped in the main building where we wandered down to the cellar to check out the gift shop there. We were immediately drawn to the different colored wine goblets on display and knew we had to take some home.

I chose the light green that felt so special and vintage. We also picked up a bottle of the Madonna Inn’s very own Champagne, because of course. And thus, couldn't help ourselves from doing a bit of modeling with it.

After that, we got ready for our dinner reservations at Alex Madonna’s Gold Rush Steak House.

#2. Have yourself a steak dinner at Alex Madonna’s Gold Rush Steak House

See what I mean about Mad Men, now?

We were seated in one of the circular booths and greeted with a small platter of veggies, cheese, and meat. The signature wine glasses that we had just purchased in the gift shop also adorned every table in a myriad of colors. We were not seated so we could see it, but around the corner, there was a dance floor where a big band also played, and then next to that the cocktail lounge.

(Next time I visit I might make a request for a booth where you can see the band). We definitely paid steak house prices, but not nearly as expensive as LA.

We both enjoyed filet mignon with loaded baked potatoes and steamed veggies. Our server was so sweet and since she knew it was my birthday got me a slice of their famous champagne cake.

#3. Indulge in a piece of pink Champagne Cake

Not a whole lot to say here because I think the picture, let alone the name speak for themselves! They of course have other cake flavors, but this is the signature one. The cake is light and airy, and pretty generous slice making it more than enough to share. The pink chocolate swirled on top and the sides of the cake, gives it that kitschy irresistible look, that is so inline withe the rest.

#4. Have breakfast delivered

The Inn had this really cute thing where you fill out a little door hanger to have coffee and a light breakfast delivered to your room by time of your preference. We thought this was interesting so we gave it a try! All we had to do was make our selections and leave it hanging outside our door by 10 pm. We each got a coffee, an OJ and a croissant! The OJ came in handy as we used up the rest of our champagne for mimosas and made our way to the pool.

#5. Enjoy the view from the pool

The pool was super cute with two hot tubs and plenty of lounge chairs. When we got there around 930 there was only one other couple and having the pool to ourselves was so nice. We lounged out until about 11 when we headed back to our room to get ready for the noon check out.
